Legacy Cannabis Duluth: My Visit to Minnesota’s First Recreational Shop

Sep 22, 2025

Three days after Legacy Cannabis opened its doors in downtown Duluth as Minnesota’s first non-tribal recreational dispensary, I knew I had to see it for myself.

From the moment I arrived, the excitement was undeniable. Bold window signs announced, “No Med Card Needed” and “Full Recreational Dispensary Now Open,” signaling the start of a new era for cannabis in Minnesota.

Inside, the process was seamless. A friendly associate greeted me, checked my ID, handed me a menu, and offered to answer any questions. For a shop that had only been open three days, everything felt smooth, professional, and thoughtfully organized, an encouraging sign for the future of legal cannabis in the state.

The space itself was impressive. A massive fridge displayed an array of D9 beverages from brands like Bent Paddle and BLNCD, while the shelves overflowed with edible options from Granny’s to Legacy’s own line. Beautifully crafted glass pipes and bongs added an artisanal touch that made the store feel more like a curated boutique than a typical dispensary.

One of my favorite features was the flower bar. Guests can examine the flower under a microscope and even smell it before buying, a hands-on experience that really elevates the shopping process.

When it was time to buy, I walked up to the counter and told the associate I was looking for prerolls to help me unwind after a long day. She asked a few thoughtful questions, recommended three of her favorite strains from Waabigwan Mashkiki, Girl Scout Fungi, Truffle Monkey, and Space Boogie and quickly entered my order. Within minutes, another team member brought it upstairs, bagged and ready. After a quick scan of my ID and payment, it hit me: I had just legally purchased recreational cannabis in Minnesota.

It was a small but powerful moment, one that felt like years in the making. Walking out with my purchase, I couldn’t help but feel excited for the future of Minnesota’s cannabis industry and all the milestones still to come.

This weekend, Legacy is keeping the celebration going with the Legacy Cup, the first cannabis event in Minnesota licensed for recreational flower sales. Tickets are still available, and if you want to be part of this history-making moment, you won’t want to miss it.
